Colour in the Winter Garden

One of the advantages to gardening in Zone 3 is that if you plan for the four seasons, you can enjoy a brilliant display of colour in the winter. OK, I’ll admit it might not be as spectacular as your summer garden in full bloom, it’s not as spectacular as winter gardens in the desert and some years it’s questionable if there really are four seasons here on the prairies but against a white canvas of sparkling snow, our winter colours in the garden can be brilliant.

  2. Hello,

You are so right…you can have year-round color wherever you live as long as you plan for it. Even though we can have flowering plants all winter, some people still do not take advantage of this in the desert. Thank you very much for posting a link to my Desert Garden post. I appreciate it very much! I hope you have a very wonderful Christmas!

  3. Beautiful photos of bark and berries — evidence the winter garden has a quiet, restful beauty. I notice details in winter that I miss during the other three seasons. I also love the quality of soft light.
