January 4, 2009 – 10:00 amIn 1990, the journal illustration is of a second bed that was in the garden and provided instructions about moving, planting and flowering. It also depicted the simple trellis that I installed in order to have a sweet pea wall. Dianthus, one of my favourites, bloomed in this bed along with saxifrage, thyme, coral bells, columbines, bugleweed and iris.
Not surprisingly, I’m still gardening with that plant list but have added the alpine varieties. There are just some things that I depend on.
